A brighter chapter for local literacy.

A website redesign for Macon Book ’Em—bringing its mission, community stories and ways to help into a warmer, clearer online experience.

Macon Book ’Em homepage redesign by Najera Design, with a clear literacy mission and donation buttons.

01 / A local mission

Put the purpose first.

Macon Book ’Em puts new books into children’s hands through volunteers, local supporters and the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office. Its website needed to make that mission easy to understand—and give visitors a clear next step.

I redesigned the site around the people and moments that make the work meaningful. A welcoming homepage, simpler routes to support, and a more consistent presentation bring the organization’s story into focus.

The goal was practical: help a first-time visitor understand Book ’Em, see its work in the community, and find a way to participate.

02 / Redesign improvements

Small details. A clearer experience.

A warmer first impression.

Forest green, warm cream, generous spacing and editorial-style headings create an inviting setting for the literacy mission. Real community photographs keep the experience personal and grounded in Macon.

Clearer ways to help.

A prominent Donate button and organized Give, Volunteer and Partner options connect visitors with the right next step. Dedicated involvement pages explain how money, time and community connections support the work.

Stories that are easier to find.

A visible Blog link brings Community Stories into the main navigation. Cleaner image-led cards, readable excerpts and homepage story previews make book giveaways, volunteer efforts and local updates easier to explore.

Partnerships in better focus.

The About page gives the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office partnership a stronger place in the story, with school-giveaway photography and dated local-news links. Sponsor recognition remains part of the site’s navigation and content.

A more useful photo destination.

The former virtual-tour page becomes Book ’Em in Pictures—a browsable gallery of the organization’s community work. Visitors can move from the imagery to the people, events and mission behind it.

Fresh content with a local connection.

New stories include the Rosa Taylor Elementary book giveaway and Christ Church’s July Ministry of the Month recognition. My Rosa Taylor photographs give the school visit a visual record and reinforce the partnership story.

04 / Photography + storytelling

Show the mission in real moments.

I photographed Book ’Em’s giveaway at Rosa Taylor Elementary, capturing students choosing their books and the deputies helping make the day possible.

The redesign brings those photographs into the school’s story and the About page, connecting the organization’s purpose with the work happening in the community.
